About Us

The Interfaith Caucus of Rutherford County exists to make deliberate, structured space for encounter across difference—not to erase it, not to soften it into something indistinct, but to hold it in a way that allows it to be understood and engaged with. We recognize that Rutherford County is not religiously monolithic, and that any claim to speak for “the faith community” or even just "the community" without that recognition is, at best, incomplete, and at worst, exclusionary. Our work is practical. We bring together clergy, practitioners, and laypeople from across belief systems to ensure that no single voice is mistaken for the whole, and that decisions affecting our communities are informed by those who actually inhabit them. This requires more than polite conversation—it requires the cultivation of relationships strong enough to withstand disagreement, clear enough to articulate boundaries, and durable enough to support cooperation where it matters most—the shared conditions under which we all live.

Interfaith collaboration, as we practice it, is not an exercise in theological compromise. It doesn't ask participants to dilute their beliefs or to adopt those of others. Instead, it insists on a more difficult discipline: to remain rooted in one’s own understanding of belief while recognizing the legitimacy of others to do the same. From that position, meaningful dialogue becomes possible—not as performance, but as an exchange grounded in lived reality.
