Community
The Interfaith Caucus of Rutherford County works to foster dialogue and build functional relationships across faith communities in our region and through that work, we support efforts that make Rutherford County more welcoming to the people who live here. This directory exists to connect the public with local ministries that are actively engaged in that kind of work—through service, community support, and a demonstrated commitment to engaging across difference. All groups listed here are explicitly trans affirming and fully welcoming of LGBTQIA+ people without condition. That means no expectation of change, no attempts at correction, and no tolerance for messaging that frames identity as a problem to be solved.
Listed groups are also open to volunteers from, and provide aid to, people of all faith backgrounds and inclusion here is based on demonstrated practice, not simply stated intent—listings will be removed if that standard is no longer met. A listing here does not imply membership in or endorsement of the caucus by these entities.
The Coven of Leaves
The Coven of Leaves is a 501(c)(3) religious organization and Gardnerian Wiccan coven based in Rutherford County, NC, practicing the tradition as it has been passed to us through our Long Island lineage. We uphold the core structure of the tradition while approaching our work through an orthopraxic, non-binary, inclusive, and trauma-informed lens that emphasizes ethical practice, community care, and responsible stewardship of the mysteries.
Rutherford Zen
Rutherford County Zen is a mindfulness community and Buddhist sangha in Rutherford County, NC. We offer weekly meditation instruction for beginners of all levels. Rutherford County Zen’s mission is to provide a space for the practice of traditional Zen meditation in Rutherford County. We seek to provide a space for mindful growth and practice open to people from all walks of life.
Gilboa UMC
Gilboa United Methodist Church welcomes all those who seek to connect to Christianity in the Rutherfordton area. We're a local LGBTQIA+ affirming Christian community where we welcome others to join us in our worship and service to God. Our vision is to make an impact for God, here in Rutherfordton, North Carolina by helping people understand the enriching messages of eternal hope given to us by Jesus Christ through His words and deeds. St. Gabriels
St. Gabriel's is a church in the foothills of Rutherfordton, North Carolina. We are an Episcopal church in the Diocese of Western North Carolina, and a part of the world-wide Anglican Communion. We are shaped by the love of Christ, and carry out His mission by offering hospitality and service to all. All are welcome.
Every Wednesday from 10AM-2PM St. Gabriels hosts the Jericho Road Soup Kitchen in collaboration with St. Francis Episcopal, First Presbyterian, and a variety of volunteers.
